Sexual addiction is very prevalent in the news today. Helping professionals need to have accurate information about this serious problem which can have devastating costs for sex addicts, their spouses/partners and families. Clients dealing with sexual addiction and compulsivity are involved with repetitive destructive patterns of compulsive out of control sexual behaviors in spite of negative life consequences. Jobs are lost, marriages end, legal problems result, and children are vulnerable to being victimized by or repeating patterns of sexual behaviors that they witness or stumble upon. Partners/Spouses and Families of Sex Addicts can feel devastated by the intrusive negative effects of the sexual addiction. They are traumatized by the behaviors of the sex addict, feel powerless, fearful and isolated. Partners can become focused on managing the sex addict and the consequences of the addiction to the detriment of their own lives. Estimates are that approximately 15% of people in the United States-men and women-using the internet for sexual purposes have problems with their cybersex activities. Approximately 9 million of these users are sexually addicted and another 15 million use cybersex in risky ways and show signs of compulsivity. 70% of all internet adult content sites are visited during the 9-5 workday.

In this workshop we will address the implications, assessment and treatment of sexual addiction.
